What a Styling Appointment Involves

Styling is more than a tidy-up. It's a full grooming session focused on giving your dog a defined, breed-appropriate finish:

• Pre-style consultation — agree the length, profile and finish you want, and look at any photos of previous trims
• Bath, brush-out and full dry to prepare a clean, lifted coat ready for shaping
• Clipper and scissor work as needed for the breed — body, legs, chest, tail and topline
• Hand-finishing on faces, ears, feet, sanitary areas and any tricky bits
• Final brush-through and check-over, plus a tidy on nails and ears if needed

Styling appointments typically run 1.5–2.5 hours depending on coat condition, breed and how much shaping is involved.

Coat-Specific Notes

• Curly coats (doodles, bichons, poodles): need a trim every 6–8 weeks to prevent severe matting; longer than that and the only safe option is often a much shorter cut than you wanted
• Wire coats (terriers, schnauzers): we use a scissor-and-clipper styling approach that keeps the dog comfortable and well-shaped
• Drop coats (shih tzu, lhasa apso, maltese): face and feet trims between full styles keep eyes clear and feet clean
• Mixed coats: many crossbreeds have a mixed coat type — we'll assess at the consultation and recommend the right approach

What to Expect on the Day

The mobile van parks at your home — driveway, front of house or kerb. The van is fully self-contained for water, hot water, lighting and power. Tracey works one-to-one, takes proper breaks, and brings the dog back to you bathed, dried, brushed and styled. If it's the first visit, expect a few minutes of consultation up front so we get the finish you want, not a generic clip.

1. What's the difference between styling and a full groom?

A full groom always finishes with shaping. The styling service is the part of grooming focused specifically on the trim profile — agreed length, body shape, face, feet and finishing. For a styled breed (doodle, spaniel, terrier etc.) it's effectively the most important stage.

2. My doodle is matted. Will you still groom them?

It depends on how severe. Light matting can usually be brushed out with care. Severe matting is uncomfortable and unsafe to brush through and we'll recommend a shorter trim and a fresh start — we'll always discuss this with you before doing it.

3. How long between styling appointments?

For curly coats and most styled breeds, every 6–8 weeks. Drop coats often manage 8–10 weeks with a shorter face-and-feet tidy in between.

4. Can I show you a photo of the style I want?

Please do. Photos are the most reliable way to communicate length and shape. We'll keep a note for next time so the look stays consistent.
